El asesinato del concejal, por el Municipio Libertador, Fernando Albán, ocurrido el 8 de octubre de 2018, fue la segunda víctima de una trilogía de crímenes de lesa humanidad cometidos por la narcodictadura de Nicolás Maduro, que tuvieron relevancia nacional e internacional, la cual comenzó el 15 de enero de 2018 con el asesinato del inspector del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas, Óscar Pérez, durante la siniestra Masacre de El Junquito y, finalmente, la tortura y asesinato del capitán de navío Rafael Acosta Arévalo.
